Click Away Conference 2023 Recap

Back in May of this year, I had the honor of teaching 4 classes at Click Away Conference in Tucson Arizona! I wanted to finally write a recap of my experience.

A HUGE thank you to Nikon for sponsoring my classes at Click Away Conference in Tucson last week! When I was 18 years old, my parents bought me a Nikon D50 as a high school graduation gift. I remember my dad saying “this is a REALLY nice camera Chloe, maybe a bit much for what you need but you’ll be able to grow with it.”

Massive gratitude for the role Nikon has played in my career as I grew over the years as an artist. Having their support and belief in me is surreal and I know 18 year old little baby photographer Chloe would be proud that I continued on my path to be a photographer.

I used the
Nikon z9 for all of my classes, which is hands down my workhorse camera. I say this a lot when I teach, but your photography gear is a tool for your art. Having reliable gear to support your creative vision is invaluable.

Fun Fact: my first time speaking at a photography conference was for Click Away in 2014! They will always hold a special place in my heart. The energy at Click Away is unmatched and this is largely in part due to the emphasis they place on connection. It can be really intimidating to show up to a conference not knowing anyone but I always leave with a bunch of new connections. My cheeks seriously hurt from smiling all last week and staying up late laughing with new friends.

I photographed two different family classes. The first one (shown below) was set in a hotel room to mimic shooting in home.

The second family shoot I taught was held on the beautiful grounds of the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. This shoot was shot at 10am before the full heat of Arizona in May melted us!

My final photoshoot I taught was held at stunning San Pedro Chapel in Tucson Arizona. Click Away conference goers had the opportunity to add on this shootout event to their conference ticket. Attendee’s were bussed out to San Pedro Chapel where dinner was provided before splitting up in to two groups. One group was with the talented Meg Loeks doing a Wes Anderson inspired children’s shoot and the other group was with me photographing a styled elopement. For my shoot, I was inspired by early 90’s Chicana fashion and the beloved Selena. After an hour both groups rotated allowing for all attendee’s to experience both instructors!
